My family at Christmas Eve

Tiger Lily

Lily has finally decided to come out of my room, but she doesn't venture far and if there is any noises she runs back and hides in my closet. Pretty much, she only goes as far as my bathroom. My trailer was about the size of my bedroom, bathroom and hallway, so I think she is just used to that small space. Hopefully she'll get used to my mom before I leave. And if anyone is wondering, Teddy is great, he is actually more loving now that he is back home, but he and Lily aren't getting along anymore which is weird.

Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree

Check out our cool Christmas tree.

Roommate!

I got an email from my roommate at Houghton today. I'm very excited about going now. I was very apprehensive about having a roommate but now ready to see what God has planned for us there. I'm also excited because I will be in Gillette (East, for you old Houghtonites).

Good-Bye Idyllwild

As I was packing up all my stuff in my trailer I realized that I would have to take all the numbers that I have collected on my frig. Everyone (mostly) that has come through my trailer have put their name and number on the frig. I have really enjoyed this tradition started by Kelly and Foster, and was sad to take them down. I was also sad to see my empty trailer.

Snow

Last night was the first snow of the season. It's mostly all melted away here in Idyllwild, but Pine Cove got more and it wasn't slushy up there. Finally, it feels like December.

The Progression of Lightning

I love this picture that my friend Dave took this picture in Big Bear, so I decided to use it for an oil painting in my painting class. The final painting is 3 to 6 layers in different parts and is 20x24. Can you see the subtle changes between the last few layers?

It's Over!!

I finished my last english!! Now I will not be plagued but English professors and annoying essays about nothing. I may have rushed through my final a bit too fast, but I don't care because I'M DONE!! I do still have four more finals next week, but have three whole days before I have to think about those. Oh happy day!!

Craziness

This was some fun craziness from my design class. We did some ink marblings (which was the fun part) tried to piece them together (not so fun) and added charcoal to emphasize the marbling. Nathan wants to buy it, so it may be my first sold piece of art. It's about 16x20.

The ring is back! I went and got it replaced. It is a smaller stud and I love it even more now.

Ringless!!

My nose ring fell down the sink drain last night. I am debating if I should get a replacement or if I should go back to being ringless. Below is a picture of my ringless nose, compare it to my profile picture. Which way is preferable?

#5

Yes, I am officially addicted. Today I went with my friend who wanted to get her first tattoo. It was so cute on her and I really wanted another one. So after we walked out of Poiema when she was done, we backed in to get mine. This is my fifth one, but definitely not the last.

The Progression of Beginning Drawing

First is a continuous line drawing. This is when the pencil never leaves the paper. That means that there is no erasing and lines are gone over multiple times. Doing a continuous line drawing teaches the drawer how to see relationships between the different contour lines. Mine looks odd, mainly because I was new and didn't know what I was doing. But it also looks odd because that is the nature of continuous line drawings-they are not meant to be pretty but to teach.

Then we learned how to sight and use a sighting stick. We used the same still life as the first because we were already familiar with it. This one looks more realistic because the portions are correct. I added some shading, but I wasn't supposed to because this was meant to be a simple contour line drawing, but I finished early and was bored.

Next, we learned how to model: it takes at least three values to turn a form. For this we used how to use the different types of charcoal. For this picture I used vine and charcoal pencils. I started on the left side and gave too much space on the left side of the boot and that is why I ran out of room and had to cut the skull off.

Finally, we learned how to use hatching and stippling in ink. I used a fine point sharpie for this. As you can tell, I used the same still life as before, but this time I managed to fit the whole composition.

FRUSTRATION!!

When you drive forty minutes to get to class you expect the teacher to be there ready to teach about the history of dance. You do not expect to see the yellow post on the door announcing to students that the teacher is absent. The whole night seems wasted. Some students, I know, would rejoice at the cancellation of a class. However, when I am paying for the class and the gas it took to get there, then I want my class!

I need help! My English teacher just sprung our final paper on us yesterday. I need to write an eight page argumentative essay in three weeks. My problem is that I don't know what to argue about. I need some good ideas. Fun topics are allowed, but remember I need to be able to back up my argument with reliable sources.

(by the way, that's not my sink, I just like the noodles)

I was digging through some old drawings and found these pictures of flowers from my mom's garden. I drew then when I was in high school, before I took any art classes and before I decided to be an art major. I'm glad I kept these.

lavendar

gerber daisy

honey suckle

Monday I decided to take an extra credit journey to the Getty Villa in Malibu. It was beautiful. The antiquities inside were fantastic, but I was truly blown away by the gardens.
the interior peristyle garden

the east garden

the exterior peristyle garden

the herbal garden

the south western part of the herbal garden

the Roman paved road that leads in and out of the villa, it's pretty but it's not very comfortable to drive on

In the spring semester this year I took a special project drawing class to get an extra unit. I had to do a series of something so I chose to do a gerber daisy in three different mediums.
this is graphite pencil

this is stippled ink

this is charcoal and chalk on colored paper

This one was in the gallery at school, my first drawing ever to be in a gallery.

This is for my new nieces, Sienna's room. It's all bugs and stuff. It is 12"x12" acrylic on cancas. I gave it Laura for her birthday even though it is for Sienna. Laura really liked that the wings continue on the sides of the canvas, sorry but I didn't get a side view picture, you'll just have to imagine.

This an oil painting of a flamenco dancer that I just completed for my painting class and my dance history class. It is 16"x20" and these are the four stages that it went through:
this is the first layer

this is the second layer when the head changed

this is the third layer in which I used impasto medium

this is the final

This is the first oil painting that I ever did. It is 16"x20". I did it in the fall of 2005.

This is acrylic on a 12"x12" canvas. I did it for Jon and Jess Miller's baby girl, Niah. She hasn't come yet, but she'll be arriving any day. This is Jess:

This is a drawing I did of two of my nieces, Sarah and Kaitlin. I took the original picture when my nieces were two and three. I used a grid to enlarge it from its original 2"x3" to its current 11"x14". It is graphite on bristol. I completed this drawing in May of 2005.
Welcome to my blog!!!
